3 of 3 people found the following review helpful KettlePizza is a hit!, July 10, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase I just made my first 2 pizzas, and I'm still learning how to use this device. It produces excellent results, but be aware - if you use too much fuel it will produce extreme heat levels! I pegged the thermometer and almost incinerated my first pie... but I got carried away with both the amount of charcoal as well as added wood. I used a chimney starter, as recommended, which I filled to the brim...after the coals are ready and spread around the edges, add about 1/3 (by volume) additional hardwood. The temperature will spike as the wood begins to burn. When the flames subside a bit, put the PizzaKettle top on. Wait till the temperature stabilizes at about 700 degrees before starting to cook. And while the product can be used with a baking stone, don't try this the first time out. You'll have plenty to do just using a pan, and the pan is easier to rotate for even cooking. I used apple wood as the hardwood fuel, which always produces a nice flavor when I use it in a vertical smoker... Read more
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Gimmick--no good, November 13, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase I gave this thing three tries--and I own a 18" WSM, 22.5 WSM and 2 other Webers--Folks"--- I BBQ!
This is a waste.
1. The opening is too low to slide a pizza off your peel.
2. No way to regulate heat. Waste of fuel--no saving them when finished.
3. In the deluxe, the Chinese-made stone cracked the FIRST time.
4. It's a strap of stainless--not one piece.
5. You have to completely disassemble to add fuel and if it's already hot you aren't doing this (trust me it's too hot).
6. It takes LOTS of fuel--at least 3/4 chimney of Kingsford PLUS some hardwood (Hickory, Apple etc.) These last for one pizza.
7. Since I cracked the first El-Cheapo stone it came with I put my wife's "Pampered Chef" ("Guaranteed") stone in it..yep--cracked it too.
(Yes I keep the fire around the back edge--about 1/3 of the back)
Point is--no regulation of heat, too small (22.5") and oh the POS thermometer---not even sealed--smoke gets into it (behind the... Read more
3 of 4 people found the following review helpful Do not buy!! - Poor Manufacturing, October 12, 2011 The edges of this product are extremely sharp, and I cut my hand very badly handling the sheet metal. This product is manufactured from a coil of stainless steel. The opening and letters are "blanked" out by a stamping press. Without secondary operations to blunt the edges, you are basically dealing with a 6' band saw. This product is not safe, and I would not buy it until this company does the right thing and fixes this issue.
